Choosing a Good Gaming Chair

A good gaming chair is one of the most important assets of a gamer. As gaming chairs come in all shapes and sizes, this might be confusing for a gamer looking for a chair. Before buying a gaming chair, it is always advisable to take time and evaluate a chair that will accommodate your gaming needs.

Usually, choosing a right gaming chair is not that simple. That’s because you have to considerate between good quality and the personal comfort. It’s not so simple to find the best compromise between these two aspects.

So what are the qualities of a good gaming chair?

Choosing Gaming Chair

Durability

Durability is a very important aspect for any gaming chair. We are pretty sure a normal gamer will sit on his chair for hours and easily spends something like 4-5 hours per day gaming. This can stress the gaming chair very easily. The material used is very important because it determines how well the chair handles the seasons and the weather and thus affecting the chair durability. Avoid totally synthetic materials, especially in high or warm temperature as the material can degrade pretty fast and lose color quickly. If you stay in areas with very warm summer weather, consider breathable material as sweating of the user will spoil the chair upholstery and cause discomfort. Leather chair is always a better option for a gaming chair compared to synthetic material.

Leather material is always the best option for a good gaming chair, and I mean real leather material, not synthetic leather. A good leather material will surely tolerate for ages the stress by long time sitting and changing weather, so a good gaming chair should be built with this material. A combination of leather with aluminum frame is usually a good choice for a gaming chair.

Functionality

Apart from offering comfort and durability, a good gaming chair should offer the needed functionality. A good gaming chair, for instance, should be compatible with the gaming system. This is something that many people forget to check only to get home and find that they have a whole different gaming system.

The aspect of functionality also includes additional accessories that come with the gaming chair. People also like the gaming chairs with additional features such as wireless and Bluetooth connection. Initially, I have found many of these features pretty weird, but after experimenting them I must say they are some pretty interesting addition. Many high end gaming chairs also support additional features like sound system or also a message system with notifications. The sound system it’s pretty interesting for high immersive experience and also a good help for some games where rear sound can be very important (Xbox games such as PUBG and Fortnite).

Ergonomic

As mentioned earlier, a normal gamer using a gaming chair will probably sit for gaming session around 4-5 hours per day. So it’s very important the ergonomic that makes the gaming experience less stressful physically for the gamer. and more enjoyable. The most important aspects for a good experience are ergonomic design that does not stress the vertebral spine and the neck. After 4 hours of gaming, it is likely that a gamer will suffer some back ache without proper support. Let’s look at some ergonomic factors for a user sitting on a gaming chair :

  • Seat height. Gaming chair seat height must be easily adjustable. A pneumatic adjustment lever is the easiest way to do this. A seat height that ranges from about 50 cm off the floor should work for most people. This allows the gamer to have his feet flat on the floor, with thighs horizontal and arms even with the height of the desk.
  • Seat width and depth. The seat should have enough width and depth to support any gamer comfortably. Usually 50-60 cm wide is the standard. The depth (from front to back of the seat) needs to be enough so that the user can sit with his back against the backrest of the ergonomic chair while leaving approximately 5-10 cm between the back of the knees and the seat of the chair. The forward or backward tilt of the seat should be adjustable.
  • Lumbar support. Lower back support in an ergonomic chair is very important. The lumbar spine has an inward curve, and sitting for long periods without support for this curve tends to lead to slouching (which flattens the natural curve) and strains the structures in the lower spine. An ergonomic chair should have a lumbar adjustment (both height and depth) so each user can get the proper fit to support the inward curve of the lower back.
  • Armrests. A chair armrests should be adjustable. They should allow the gamer’s arms to rest comfortably and shoulders to relax. The elbows and lower arms should rest lightly, and the forearm should not be on the armrest while typing or holding the mouse.
